Carver Museum Gallery Opening in Austin, Texas

April 22 was the opening night for the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center’s 2010 “100%” art gallery and silent auction. Every 12″ x 12″ piece of art work is for sale through the silent auction process, until May 31.  The proceeds benefit the museum’s educational programs.

I donated a mosaic called “Connection” for the auction.  The youngest donor was a girl of about 10 years; the oldest was (who knows?) in her 80’s.  There are professional artists in the bunch, highly skilled hobbyists, and those who are well-known in the community, but who claim no artistic ability at all. My mom, who is herself 93, became inspired to make a wall hanging out of ceramic for next year’s show.

Bob Jones, the exhibit’s coordinator, placed the art on the walls in such a way that the arrangement itself became art.
